Altitude Training
What is it?
Hypoxic (reduced oxygen) training is a simple, proven training tool which improves your body’s ability to use oxygen with associated benefits. The process involves breathing hypoxic air either during exercise (active) or when simply sitting down (passive) for a period of up to 40 minutes. Breathing hypoxic air increases the energy demands on the body by around 15% without increasing the impact on the body. This makes it a very effective training tool for anybody seeking to improve their health. At Regenerate, we are able to create an altitude of up to 6,000 metres enabling everybody to experience the health and fitness benefits of life at altitude. These include:

Mountaineering (Passive)
Aimed at the increasing number of people are looking to embark on a mountaineering expedition, you can begin your acclimatisation process here at Tring by experiencing the effects of breathing hypoxic air.
The treatment lasts 40 minutes whereby you simply sit comfortably whilst wearing an oxygen mask simulating the effects of breathing at altitude. Dependent upon your oxygen saturation levels, the altitude can be adjusted during the treatment to ensure optimal results. Acclimatisation is very individual specific and is generally not a reflection of a person’s level of fitness. Therefore this treatment is essential for anybody planning on spending time at altitude to avoid the harmful and dangerous effects of altitude sickness.

Weight Loss (Vibrogym & Altitude Training)
This program is perfect for those seeking to increase the number of calories during their workouts. We have combined the benefits of vibration training alongside altitude training to create a truly effective fat burning training program. The session starts with a 20-minute workout using the Vibrogym vibrating plate which gives your body’s metabolism a kick-start, enhancing the tone and flexibility of your body.
Following the Vibrogym workout, we then focus on improving your cardiovascular system by putting you through a 25-minute hypoxic workout. Using the professional Wattbike, and wearing a hypoxic breathing mask, you will experience a workout at altitude which significantly increases the number of calories expended without placing extra stress on your joints.
Injury Rehabilitation (Kriotherapy & Altitude Training)
Whole body kriotherapy is unique to the Regenerate centre at Champneys Tring and has been used extensively as part of an injury rehabilitation strategy for numerous elite sports people. The treatment subjects you to extreme cold for a short period of time during which your blood capillaries limit circulation, pooling blood to your vital organs. As soon as you exit the chamber, your blood capillaries dilate to their maximum promoting a surge in blood circulation, in particular to the injury which in turn accelerates the recovery process. Following the kriotherapy treatment, we then enhance blood circulation further by exercising at altitude. The 25-minute hypoxic program will have the double effect of increasing the number of red blood cells in your blood and also improving your body's ability to use oxygen; enhancing and accelerating the recovery and rehabilitation process.

Health & Fitness
Exercising at altitude has long been used by elite sports people as part of their training program, enabling them to increase their cardiovascular fitness through an increase in red blood cells and improved oxygen efficiency. Following an initial 5 minute acclimatisation process where your body breathes hypoxic air, reducing the amount of oxygen in your blood (saturation), you then exercise for 20-minutes at altitude. Using the professional Wattbike, we monitor your oxygen saturation levels, your heart rate and your corresponding power output during the session to ensure you exercise at an optimal training intensity. The Wattbike also enables us to record each workout, enabling us to monitor and demonstrate your progress over the weeks. This program is a great complement to any training program and is a powerful boost to your cardiovascular fitness.
